Have you ever been around an alcoholic? How do you feel about them as a person? Do you believe their alcoholism is a disease? Do you think they can quit drinking at the snap of a finger?
Alcohol robs people of their dignity, health, stability, and the choice of making right decisions for their lives and families. An alcoholic will abandon their family, children, abuse, breed a liar, bring financial disaster to themselves and their family, loss of honesty and dependency, have problems with authorities, etc.
Alcoholism is a disease and it has ruined the lives of those who were well-educated, business people, rich people, the married, a great sportsmen, a great talents and many well rounded people. These were people who had the world by the tail but their drinks brought them to the brink of destruction. It slowly wove their bodies and soul into its web of "no return," and left an empty shell without any money, no future, no place to go, and without any hopes and dreams for a survival. They were given chance after chance and fell off the wagon every time and ended up being only a shadow of themselves. A shadow with a crave for "another drink" and a beggar on the street with only the clothes they had on their back and nothing more.
Alcohol robbed their minds, their moral values, the ability to love anyone, stole their lives, robbed them of their dignity, their families, their home, custody of their children, and other important aspects of their lives, and they were unable to control it because alcohol had them under its terrible spell and they found they could not live without it.
Yes, it's my opinion, alcoholism is a disease that causes people, under its spell, to struggle to try to get themselves free from its anchor. It's as though the alcohol has a noose around their neck and it's slowly chokes them to death at a slow pace.
People alcoholism is a terrible disease to have because you constantly crave the alcohol to get that "high" you're looking for. The best thing a person who drinks can do is to notice and realize how much they're drinking on a regular basis, and if they're starting to miss work to hit the bars for another drink, they are on the brink of having the worse problem they could ever have in their life. Take heed, walk away before it's to late to save your life.
